On the name
The hyphen is the smallest mark in the language. Yet without it, even the closest words never quite reach one another. In that small stroke lay everything we set out to do. Our work is not invention, but connection. We join what already exists yet sits apart — technology and culture, people and objects, thought and use. Good things seldom come from nothing. They emerge in the moment existing things first meet. So for us, design is not the making of forms. It is the making of relationships, of flow, of things that endure.
하이픈이라는 이름
하이픈은 가장 작은 기호입니다. 그러나 그 하나가 없으면, 가장 가까이 놓인 두 낱말도 끝내 서로에게 닿지 못합니다. 그 작은 선(–) 안에, 우리가 하려는 모든 것이 담겨 있었습니다. 우리의 일은 발명이 아니라 연결입니다. 이미 세상에 있지만 서로 떨어져 있던 것들 — 기술과 문화, 사람과 사물, 생각과 쓰임 — 을 잇습니다. 좋은 것은 무에서 생겨나지 않습니다. 이미 있던 것들이 만나는 자리에서 비로소 태어납니다. 그래서 우리에게 디자인은 형태를 짓는 일이 아닙니다. 관계를 잇고, 흐름을 만들고, 오래 지속되게 하는 일입니다.
What we do
We design across every scale — from the smallest component to an entire space. From the product small enough to hold, to the space you can stand inside. And everything in between — the equipment that makes things, the experience people have with them, the culture they leave behind. A component, an interior, a production line, a brand. To us these are not separate trades, but different points along a single act of connection. We were raised on the most demanding hardware — inside aircraft in flight, inside precision instruments in the lab, things that simply must work. So we know that a good idea, while it stays on the page, is not yet anything at all. We carry an idea all the way — until it is held, worn into daily use, and lived with.

We call it story-driven engineering. Everything we make has something to say — a reason to exist beyond its function. We don't print that story on the surface. We carve it into the structure, into the bones. Two principles run beneath it. Precision minimalism — simplicity comes not from what is taken away, but from what is carefully designed. Modular sustainability — to repair, to replace, to use for longer. That is the firmest sustainability there is. When the two meet, a story becomes something you can hold in your hand.

mieum is the brand we built ourselves. It began with a single sentence — buy less, use longer. Patented structures, design the world took notice of, and products that reached people's hands. We design for our clients. And we prove it to ourselves.
